I understand that there are many Wing Chun classes in the area, but my personal preference is to take a class or go to a class with a friend.

The reason we’re having problems finding our way around these two examples is because of the fact that most of the time we seem to be stuck in the same place or that there isn’t much information available. So you might be thinking, “Ah, this is just one more reason to hate the first example.” I mean, at first glance, it might seem like wing chun, but I don’t think that’s true.
In Wing Chun, the “energy of the hand” is the way that you generate chi. In tai chi, the “energy of the mind” is the way that you generate chi. Neither of these techniques are particularly difficult to learn and there is a lot of information out there. What I am saying is that they are not exactly the same thing.
I do have a better idea of what a good wing chun is. It could be anything from a good feather, a good sword, a good spirit, or a good spirit of healing. But it’s probably not the same thing.
