This post is my attempt at capturing a moment from the fight between Conor McGregor and Ronda Rousey.
Just like the fight itself, the fight itself is very well done, but it’s the reaction afterward that really hit me. McGregor was a bit too haggard and robotic to engage in the kind of fun sparring that we’ve all come to know and love, but that’s not what took place. It’s actually what took place during his post-fight interview that made me want to watch his fight again.
Afterwards McGregor was asked about the fight and he couldn’t seem to explain it any better than that. He claimed that, after he was knocked out, he felt like he was fighting through a dream.
The fight itself was also quite interesting. McGregor put himself through the kind of mental gymnastics that I imagine you do when you fight a guy like Floyd, but the fight itself was not as high octane as I expected it to be. McGregor was on the verge of being choked out by the crowd but he kept fighting long enough to finish the fight. I thought that maybe that was the wrong way to go. I also thought that maybe he should have retired after the fight.
