A few years ago, I was fortunate enough to have a private instructor. She was a well-known jiu jitsu instructor who had been around for a long time. She knew a lot about the art and science and philosophy of the art. What she also knew about was how to teach it. She knew that if you had a certain way of holding, moving, and posing that would work best for you.
It’s not easy. She would tell me to put my palms together and close my eyes. She would then give me a drill I could do myself, or a position I could do on my own. When she would see that I was comfortable with the drill, she would then show me how to do it. As long as I didn’t get frustrated with her, I was good to go.
Science and philosophy of the art. What she also knew was that if you had an art and you were doing it right, you could learn jiu jitsu. Its been done since the early ’90s. I know its hard, but that’s what it is.
I don’t know why it took me three weeks to learn. The only reason I knew it was because I knew at the time that jiu jitsu was one of my favorite art forms. You can be a good jiu jitsu expert, a great jiu jitsu actor, or a good jiu jitsu musician.
I know I’m a bit late to the party here, but I would like to point out that martial arts is a very popular art in the United States. That’s because it has been around since the early 1900s, when it was first developed for self-defense purposes.
As it turns out, jiu mitsu is the art of self-defense. When you learn it, you also learn to defend yourself, which means that it’s a good idea to learn it at home. The only problem is if your dojo is in the country, and you’re not training in the best schools. We’re talking about jiu jitsu training in person, which can take up to a month.
It’s the same thing with everything. I think it’s true in the United States of A– and we all know that; but when you look at the vast majority of the world, it’s almost as if the US is in a big vacuum. It’s not because a small community-based society is so strong; it’s because a nation-wide system of martial arts is so small and almost nothing of the scale of the world is getting to the small world.
In the end, its more about what you want to learn than what you’re good at. So if you want to learn how to kick butt and take names with an MMA fighter, go to a UFC gym and ask for the coach to show you the ropes. If you want to learn how to kill a zombie with a kick, go to a zombie-themed gym, and ask the instructor to show you how it’s done.

I think this is the best advice I’ve heard all year. “Just go to a gym, ask for a coach, and you’ll get the best advice in the world.” Because you can get the best advice in the world without ever actually going to a gym. Most gyms aren’t even open on the weekends.
